Now, I must preface this review by telling you I bought an expensive Blendtec Wildside blender from Amazon and have that as comparison..
Despite the fact that this was about a third of the price of the Blentec (about $100 vs $300) this blender knocks the socks off the Blentec. I too have a KithenAid blender that served me well until the rubber coupling gave out and has yet to be replaced (about an $8 part).
Back to the subject. This blender has a nice fitting lid which seals shut and drips back I to the jar unlike the Blendtec which neither seals, and drips all over the place. It has a selection of variable speeds but I find just using the set speeds works fine, and pulse seems much more reliable than the Blendtec. And the jar is glass, not plastic.
So given the price and superior features, and quite attractive sitting on the counter, if it lasts more than a year, I'll be a happy camper.
