New to roasting
Just received the Gene Cafe and roasted my first batch. We drink a total of 4 cups a day, which surprisingly is a fair amount of beans. I decided to try to save a few more bucks and roast my own coffee at home. I prefer a 100% Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee, however, it is now going for $50-$80 per pound, so we have been drinking blends for the most part (A blend of Jamaican Blue Mountain and another Arabica bean in percentages that aren't disclosed for $12 a pound) I found the Grade 1 green (unroasted) pure Jamaican Blue Mountain for $10 per pound delivered and figured I would give roasting a try. There are many roasters out there and I researched them for almost 2 months and decided on the Gene Cafe. Very glad I did. While the Gene is a bit expensive, it is easy to use and clean, roasts and cools the beans in one unit, and the end product is better than the pure Jamaican coffee I was buying for 5 times the cost. I had never roasted coffee before so I was a bit intimidated...
